FDA Certification
for 2009 for Mammography
Wyoming County
Community Hospital is proud to announce its FDA certification for 2009 for
mammography. To meet the Mammography Quality Standards Act Requirements, the
hospital undergoes a rigorous review of its clinical images and must meet
federal standards for a variety of functions including personnel, equipment
and quality assurance programs.
Ron Krawiec, CEO of the Wyoming
County Community Health System stated, “We are very proud of our staff and
this certification is a reassurance to our community that our technologists
who perform mammograms and the physicians who interpret them are meeting the
highest standards of care. We also are most appreciative of our staff member
Jennifer Bishoff, RT who completes the bulk of the complex certification
application.
According to Peg Morgan-Hise, director of outpatient
services, “Most insurers recommend that women over age 40, or who have other
risk factors, receive a screening mammogram every one to two years.
Mammograms can detect breast changes in women who have no signs or symptoms
of breast cancer. (Although less common, men also can be diagnosed with
breast cancer.) The women we see appreciate the convenience of getting their
mammogram within a short driving distance from home or work. They can be
confident that all of our Mammographers are Registered Mammography
Technologists and that we have state-of-art- Digital equipment. Everything
they need is close to home.”
To schedule a mammogram, a women needs
to secure referral from her primary care physician and call 786-1256 for an
appointment. Mammograms are conducted Monday through Friday between 8:30
am-4:30 pm and usually take about a half hour. Most patients learn of their
results that same day.
