Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Advanced Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement

Recently announced WCCHS has been awarded The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Advanced Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission’s performance standards. The Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care.

Another first for WCCHS. We are the areas first hospital to earn a Gold Seal of Approval® for advanced total hip and total knee replacement surgery from The Joint Commission.

WCCHS underwent a rigorous onsite survey in December 2018. During the review, Joint Commission experts evaluated compliance with advanced disease-specific total hip and total knee replacement care standards, including orthopaedic consultation, and pre-operative, intraoperative and post-surgical orthopaedic follow-up care.

Established in 2016 and awarded for a two-year period, the advanced certification was developed in response to the growing number of patients undergoing a total hip or total knee replacement surgery, as well as the increased focus on clinical evidence-based patient care as it relates to pain management, quality of life issues, functional limitation in mobility and the return to normal daily activities.

“Achieving this distinguished certification validates our commitment to providing the highest quality, safest, most advanced care to our total hip and total knee replacement patients,” said Donald Eichenauer, CEO.

“Advanced Joint Reconstruction Certification is the result of exceptional teamwork among physicians, nurses, technicians, physical and occupational therapists and all of our staff. I believe this certification is a reflection of our boutique Joint Reconstruction philosophy that allows us to provide the very best care in the region for our patients undergoing joint replacement surgery while maintaining the personalized patient friendly qualities of a rural community hospital,” said Paul Mason, MD, Chairman of Orthopaedic Surgery and Chief Medical Officer of WCCHS.
