Recognition of Quality
Congratulations WCCHS TeamIn 2010, the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) recognized the work of WCCHS in Clostridium difficile (CDiff) protocol. In early 2009, our CDiff rates were climbing, so our team put together a protocol that would proactively mitigate the risk of contracting the bacteria for all patients. Linda Klein from WCCHS Infection Prevention led an interdisciplinary team to develop a screening tool, standing orders, patient education material, and in-service education of staff. Consequently, our CDiff rate dropped from 2.4 per 1,000 patient care days in early 2008 to 1.3 per 1,000 patient care days in 2009. Individualized education was also implemented to make sure everyone was on board with the new protocol and procedures. Initiatives like the CDiff project are what set WCCHS apart. We are proud of of our team and their accomplishments. For more information on this project, please contact Veronica Smith at (585) 786-2233 Ext. 4717.
