WCCH Skilled Nursing Facility Welcomes New Administrator

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEOctober 4, 2011

Warsaw, New York, October 3, 2011 – Wyoming County Community Hospital and Skilled Nursing Facility starts off the fall season by welcoming Martin MacKenzie, RN LNHA, to their leadership team as the new administrator of our long-term care facility.  MacKenzie’s experience in other long-term care facilities and his desire to interact one-on-one with residents and staff were the reasons the Board of Managers of WCCH chose to hire MacKenzie.

MacKenzie began his nursing career in 1994 while attending Niagara County Community College.  His entire professional experience is based in long-term care, specifically, which made him an excellent choice to run our county’s facility.

MacKenzie’s knowledge has accumulated over the years by working in private, public, and not-for-profit facilities that provided long-term care to residents.  He quickly moved into management positions after graduating from nursing school and has acted as Director of Nursing, Assistant Director, and Nurse Manager for both long-term as well as sub-acute units.

As Admissions Coordinator for Erie County’s Home for long-term care, he experienced first-hand the challenges of managing within the constraints of a limited budget.  Erie County’s Home was hospital-based, like WCCH’s Skilled Nursing Facility, which MacKenzie deems as necessary for the welfare of the patients.

While realizing his potential in nursing home management, MacKenzie returned to school to receive a business degree from Houghton College in Houghton, NY (2007).  In December of 2010, his work and dedication paid off when he earned his Nursing Home Administrators license, a requirement for administrating any nursing home or long-term care nursing facility.

Regardless of licenses and titles, MacKenzie says he believes that caring for those in need is a privilege. “I have the highest level of respect for the people who provide care to [our] residents. I am truly honored to serve WCCH Skilled Nursing Facility residents as well as the staff, who are vital to the care of those patients. I hope my experiences combined with the staff’s knowledge and skills assist WCCH in achieving its maximum potential.”

“Our staff and Board of Managers look forward to welcoming Martin to the WCCH family.  His patient-focused experience is a method that our nursing staff has implemented and looks forward to improving with Martin’s leadership during these challenging times,” says Dr. Kuczmarski, CEO.

The Wyoming County Community Health System extends their thanks to the retiring Denis Jacques for his years of dedication and service to WCCH’s Skilled Nursing Facility.  Under his and his staff’s leadership, operations were improved, and the Nursing Facility in 2011 received one of our best quality reviews in many years.
