Effective September 27, 2021, designated personal caregivers visiting hours will be seven days per week during the hours of 2:00pm and 6:00pm.
Also, Monday and Saturday visits are temporarily being suspended while we assess the impact of the vaccine mandate on our healthcare workers. We understand the value of visits to the residents and will do everything possible to return the scheduled visits. DR. SALMAN ABBASEY JOINS THE WYOMING COUNTY COMMUNITY HEALTH SYSTEM PRIMARY MEDICINE TEAM
Warsaw, New York, August 31, 2021 –Wyoming County Community Health System (WCCHS) announced the addition of Dr. Salman Abbasey, MD to its staff as of September 1, 2021. Dr. Abbasey, a Board Certified Internal Medicine physician, has moved his practice previously located in Geneseo, NY to 1 Parker Lane, Perry, NY.
Dr. Abbasey takes care of adult patients 18 years and older, has been in practice in Geneseo since 1999, and is a resident of Warsaw. Dr. Abbasey offers a full range of internal medicine services and has a broad general knowledge of medical conditions especially those related to maintaining good health.
Dr. Abbasey is Chairman of the Department of Medicine at WCCHS, past president of the WCCHS Medical Staff, serves on Wyoming County Board of Health, and the WCCHS Board of Managers.

Letters were sent to families to designate (2) personal caregivers and 2 compassionate caregivers. DESIGNATED caregiver visits have begun and we are allowing in-room visits for those individuals only.
We continue to allow in-person visits by appointment on Mondays and Saturdays. Personal caregivers must provide vaccination card or a negative COVID-19 test within the past seven (7) days.

COVID-19 community vaccination TODAY from 9am to 4pm at the Wyoming County Health Department, 5362 Mungers Mill Road, Silver Springs, NY.NEW: There will be a walk-in COVID-19 community vaccination clinic on Friday, June 25, 2021 from 9:00am to 4:00pm at the Wyoming County Health Department at 5362 Mungers Mill Road, Silver Springs (approximately 2.5 miles south of the Village of Warsaw). Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be available.
The single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be available for anyone 18 years and older. The first dose of Pfizer vaccine will be available for anyone 12 years and older; a parent or guardian must accompany those under age 18 for consent to be vaccinated. A second dose will be scheduled on July 16, also at the Health Department.

HOSPITAL PATIENT VISITATION UPDATE 06/11/2021:
Effective June 14, 2021
As WCCHS continues to monitor the activity of the Covid-19 pandemic within our community and surrounding communities, we are pleased to announce that we will update our visitation for the inpatient areas. Monitoring will be ongoing, as the health and safety of our patients, visitors, and employees remains a priority.
We continue to understand the importance of patient interaction with their loved ones and the role visitation plays in a patients’ emotional wellbeing and therefore in their recovery. We encourage families to continue to consider communication through phone and video chat during other hours of the day. The Patient and Family Services department can help set up the video call. If an in-person visit is desired, the following precautions remain in place to protect our community, patients, families, staff, and visitors, against the potential risk for acquiring and/or the spread of infectious disease.
The visitor must:
• Wear a mask at all times, regardless of visitor or patient vaccination status for Covid-19 or influenza, also including while in the patient room. Visitors who fail to wear a mask will be asked to leave the facility.
• Be 12 years of age or older.
• Undergo temperature and symptom screening upon arrival. If a visitor does not pass the screening process or does not follow hospital protocols, they will not be allowed to visit. Behavioral Health visitors will be screened upon arrival at the Behavioral Health entrance on the backside of the facility, Door “M.”
• Perform hand hygiene (with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer or the use of soap and water).
• Practice social distancing and remain at the patient’s bedside throughout the visit unless directed by hospital staff for certain procedures or circumstances, except to use the restroom.
Visiting hours and circumstances may vary by unit and will be at the discretion of the healthcare providers. Holiday visiting hours will follow weekend hours.
• General inpatient units (Med/Surg 3rdFloor and ICU):
2 visitors between 12:00pm and 6:30pm, Monday-Friday.
Saturday and Sunday visitation will be from 12pm- 4pm.
Visitation times may be altered under special circumstances, such as for patients in imminent end-of-life situations and patients for whom a support person has been determined essential to the care of the patient.
• Behavioral Health:
2 visitors between 3:30-5pm and 6:30-8pm, Monday-Friday.
2 visitors between 2-5pm and 6:30-8pm, Saturday and Sunday.
• Emergency Department:
1 visitor, starting at patient arrival.
If your loved one is admitted to the hospital between 12:00pm and 6:30pm, Monday- Friday and 12pm-4pm on Saturday and Sunday, you may accompany them to their room. Otherwise, you must return during visiting hours.
Pediatric patients may have both parents as essential support persons.
• Labor and Delivery:
2 designated support persons and if applicable, a doula. The support person must have a temperature check every 12 hours.
• Same-Day Surgery and Procedures:
1 visitor may accompany the patient to the unit if wheelchair assistance or communication assistance is needed and then leave the building. The 1 visitor may then return to the unit during the discharge process.
• Outpatient Clinics and Services:
No visitors allowed at this time unless the patient needs wheelchair or communication assistance. Scheduling of patients must be done to limit time in waiting rooms due to space constraints and social distancing requirements.

National Nurse’s Week, May 6th – 12th, is a special time to reflect on all the WCCHS nursing staff, the important role that they play, the sacrifices that they make, and how fortunate we are to have them.
Like every other year, the American Nurses Association designates a theme for the week. This year, we find two themes. First, “Year of the Nurse 2021-Caring, Skill, Integrity.” This theme is a continuation from 2020 as it relates to the pandemic and all the courage nurses had and continue to show while working on the frontlines. The second theme is “Nurses: Exceptional People, Essential Care.” This theme needs no further explanation.
WCCHS nurses, who are especially talented in what they do, including Obstetrics, Medical/Surgical, Intensive Care, Surgical, Emergency, Cardiac Rehab, Informatics, Clinics, Infection Prevention, Data Abstraction, Nursing Supervisors, Nurse Managers, Patient Family Services, Behavioral Health, Nurse Educator, Skilled Nursing Facility, and Workplace Health Services, contribute in countless ways to the health and well-being of our patients during some very challenging times.
So many words can describe a nurse: caring, amazing, compassionate, loving, kind, sensitive, reliable, devoted, tough, hardworking, selfless, dedicated. The list could go on and on.
While one week is not nearly enough, we want to take this week every year to share our gratitude and support by thanking all of our nurses for the work they do every day, in times of crisis, and always.

Congratulations Christy Librock Hibsch (WCCHS Operating Room Technician) on being selected as a New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) photo contest winners.
The Nursing Leadership Team and numerous staff members celebrated with Brenda Meyer, RN, Nurse Educator who retires after 40 years of service at WCCHS.
Over the years, Brenda worked in pediatrics, the emergency department, as nursing supervisor, and as nurse educator, as well as a per diem flight nurse for Mercy Flight.
Brenda will enjoy her retirement traveling and will periodically return for some per diem work in the education department.
Congratulations, Brenda and thank you for all of your years of service!

There are appointments available for the next COVID-19 Moderna community vaccination clinic on Thursday, April 29th from 7:00am to 11:00am at the Lodge at Hidden Valley Animal Adventure on Royce Road in Varysburg. This clinic is open to anyone ages 18 and older.
