“Breaking News: I found the secret to great healthcare!”

Severe asthma and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) had made life almost unbearable for Dorothy Rasmusson (center).

“I was so tired, it was ridiculous,” says Dorothy, who was an elementary school teacher for 34 years before retiring. “I couldn’t walk 20 feet without feeling exhausted. It got to the point where I was needing oxygen all of the time. I didn’t want to live that way and decided to find some help.”

Dorothy, who lives in Arcade, soon began eight weeks of pulmonary rehab therapy at Wyoming County Community Health System in April 2013. “Debbie Kwitowski (right) and the other therapists were wonderful and so encouraging,” Dorothy says. “They were always taking care of me and making sure I did my exercises right.

They taught me breathing techniques so I could recover my breath more quickly.”

Dorothy was so happy about her care that she wrote a letter to the Arcade Herald praising the hospital as the “Best Kept Secret” for health problems. Today Dorothy is doing physical activities she never thought she would do again. “I can go to the store, walk to my neighbor’s house and workout on the treadmill,” she says. “And because I’ve been able to exercise more, I’ve lost 50 pounds! Thank you Wyoming County Community Health System. You gave me my life back!”
