“I’ve taken a big step forward with my new hip!”
—Jay Hakes, Arcade, NY
Jay Hakes was tired of the trouble his right hip was causing him. “The pain had been getting worse for seven or eight years,” says Jay. “It got to the point where I could only walk with a severe limp, and I was having trouble doing all the chores around my farm, where I raise beef cattle.”
So Jay went to see Dr. Paul Mason, a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with Wyoming County Community Health System, who performed hip replacement surgery. “Dr. Mason is good with people and very informative,” Jay says. “I knew he would do an excellent job.”
“After the surgery, I hardly had any pain,” says Jay, who was born at the old Wyoming County Hospital and has lived his whole life in Wyoming County.
“I was in the hospital three nights. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the food was good, too. Before, during and after the surgery, everyone gave me really good care. Today I can walk the pasture on my farm and get on and off my tractor with no problem. The pain is gone—thanks to Dr. Mason and Wyoming County Community Health System.”
