Warsaw, New York, June 4, 2019 – WCCHS announces it has expanded its Hospitalist program. The WCCHS Hospitalist services are provided by Western New York Physicians, PLLC and the program is led by Rania Karam-Bayoumi, MD who is a full time provider at WCCHS.
Hospitalists programs have grown in popularity over recent years as many community physicians have determined it is more efficient to concentrate on their office practice rather than commuting back and forth from their office to the hospital. Similarly hospitals have found it more beneficial and timely to the patient to have physicians and other provider’s on-site able to immediately address patient needs rather than needing to contact off-site providers with test results and follow-up questions.
WCCHS’s Hospitalist team now consists of six (6) nurse practitioners (NPs), physician’s assistants (PAs), and four (4) medical doctors, who are on-site each day, and are the primary overseer of care for hospitalized patient from the time of admission to release.
WCCHS CEO Don Eichenauer noted that “as patient complexity has increased, this expanded program is enabling us to meet patient needs and allow more patients to be served locally versus having to travel to Rochester or Buffalo for hospital care.”
The hospitalist team is available around the clock, focusing on the patient’s condition or acute illness and determining the best treatment. A major part of the hospitalist’s job is to communicate with the patient’s primary care physician and coordinate post-hospitalization care at home or in a rehabilitation facility.
As a patient cared for under the Hospitalist program, you will be evaluated daily by a physician who is supported by an NP or PA who will discuss your care with the doctor in charge of your case each day. You may request to see or speak to the doctor anytime during your stay. When you leave the hospital, you will follow-up with your own primary care provider.
