Congratulations to WCCHS’s first DAISY Foundation Award honoree, COURTNEY KOHLHAGEN. Courtney is an RN who works on our Medical Surgical floor and is also an Acute Nursing Supervisor.
DAISY Award recognitions honor the super-human work nurses do for patients and families every day wherever they practice, in whatever role they serve, and throughout their careers – from Nursing Student through Lifetime Achievement in Nursing.
Nurses are nominated by anyone in the organization - patients, family members, other nurses, physicians, other clinicians and staff - anyone who experiences or observes extraordinary compassionate care being provided by a nurse.
If you have been the recipient of extraordinary care by a nurse and would like to nominate her or him, complete a nomination form available in the main lobby. For more information about the DAISY Foundation/Award, please visit their website at www.daisyfoundation.org/

National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6th and ends on May 12th, Florence Nightingale’s birthday. It is a special time to recognize and thank our nurses.
Nurses can be described in numerous ways but overall they are a person strong enough to tolerate everything and soft enough to understand everyone. Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest accomplishment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.
This year, we recognize both the American Nurses Association and AACN American Association of Critical-Care Nurses theme “Rooted in Strength”. This theme is inspired by a personal and professional journey of a nurse who walked away from nursing after the deaths of her father, brother, and husband within a short span of time, and later returned to nursing. She compares the pandemic to a wildfire, and our recovery to the new growth of wildflowers and evergreens after a fire. “Young trees and flowers symbolize new life – how their roots dug deeper and held stronger to allow them to grow and flourish.”
“Nurses are rooted in strength, forged in fire and growing in power. Rooted in Strength we create our new path forward as leaders in healthcare.” Beth Wathen.
WCCHS Nursing Leadership Team, Clinic Administration, Administration, and the Medical Staff wish to send a heartfelt thank you to all of our nurses. #wycoapproved #wcchs #wyomingcountyny #nursesweek #nationalnursesweek2022 #rootedinstrength #thankyou ... See MoreSee Less

HOSPITAL PATIENT VISITATION UPDATE 3/21/22:
Effective March 23, 2022
As WCCHS continues to closely monitor the activity of the Covid-19 pandemic within our community and surrounding communities, we find that we can comfortably again revise our visitation guidelines.
We continue to understand the importance of patient interaction with their loved ones and the role visitation plays in a patients’ emotional wellbeing and therefore in their recovery. We encourage families to continue to consider communication through phone and video chat during other hours of the day. The Patient and Family Services department can help set up the video call. If an in-person visit is desired, the following precautions remain in place to protect our community, patients, families, staff, and visitors, against the potential risk for acquiring and/or the spread of infectious disease.
Visitors must continue with the following:
• Wear a mask at all times, regardless of visitor or patient vaccination status for Covid-19 or influenza, also including while in the patient room. Visitors who fail to wear a mask will be asked to leave the facility.
• Be 12 years of age or older.
• Undergo temperature and symptom screening upon arrival. If a visitor does not pass the screening process or does not follow hospital protocols, they will not be allowed to visit. Behavioral Health visitors will be screened upon arrival at the Behavioral Health entrance on the backside of the facility, Door “M.”
• Perform hand hygiene (with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer or the use of soap and water).
• Practice social distancing and remain at the patient’s bedside throughout the visit unless directed by hospital staff for certain procedures or circumstances, except to use the restroom.
Visiting hours and circumstances may vary by unit and will be at the discretion of the healthcare providers. Holiday visiting hours will follow weekend hours.
• General inpatient units (Med/Surg 3rdFloor and ICU):
2 visitors between 12pm and 6:30pm, Monday-Friday.
Saturday and Sunday visitation will be from 12pm- 4pm.
Visitation times may be altered under special circumstances, such as for patients in imminent end-of-life situations and patients for whom a support person has been determined essential to the care of the patient.
• Behavioral Health:
2 visitors between 3:30-5pm and 6:30-8pm, Monday-Friday.
2 visitors between 2-5pm and 6:30-8pm, Saturday and Sunday.
• Emergency Department:
1 visitor, starting at patient arrival.
If your loved one is admitted to the hospital between 12:00pm and 6:30pm, Monday- Friday and 12pm-4pm on Saturday and Sunday, you may accompany them to their room. Otherwise, you must return during visiting hours.
Pediatric patients may have both parents as essential support persons.
• Labor and Delivery:
2 designated support persons and if applicable, a doula. The support person(s) must have a temperature check every 12 hours.
• Same-Day Surgery and Procedures:
1 visitor may accompany the patient to the unit if wheelchair assistance or communication assistance is needed and then leave the building. The 1 visitor may then return to the unit during the discharge process.
• Outpatient Clinics and Services:
No visitors allowed at this time unless the patient needs wheelchair or communication assistance. Scheduling of patients must be done to limit time in waiting rooms due to space constraints and social distancing requirements.
If you have any questions about these changes, please contact (585) 786-2233. Thank you for observing these important measures to promote a safe and healing environment for all.
