Delivering Timely Stroke Care Close to Home

During a stroke, every minute matters. Rapid recognition, diagnosis and treatment can make a significant difference in a patient’s survival and recovery.

The American Heart Association’s Rural Stroke measures focus on critical aspects of emergency stroke care, including timely brain imaging, evaluation of stroke symptoms, coordination with emergency medical services, consultation with stroke specialists, appropriate treatment and timely transfer when a higher level of care is needed. www.heart.org

For patients and families in rural communities, having a local hospital prepared to quickly identify and respond to a possible stroke can be especially important. Rural hospitals often serve as the first point of care, making efficient assessment, treatment and coordination essential.

The Rural Stroke Silver recognition reflects Wyoming County Community Health System’s ongoing work to ensure patients receive care that aligns with nationally recognized, evidence-based standards.

A Commitment to Continuous Improvement

Get With The Guidelines® is an American Heart Association quality improvement program designed to help healthcare organizations translate the latest scientific guidelines into everyday patient care.

Participation allows hospitals to measure their performance, identify opportunities for improvement and develop systems that support more consistent treatment. Hospitals participating in the program may earn national recognition when they demonstrate that established quality measures are being met. www.heart.org
